Carnlough Library

The Overview

Carnlough Library furniture & shelving layout took into consideration the historical and idyllic setting of Carnlough. We designed a space reflecting its character by introducing products that are modern with a traditional twist. It was our aim to create a fresh approach to this community space that would be comfortable and inviting. The outcome has been a huge success for users of all ages to enjoy where they can interact with and personalise their environment.

The Brief

To design a space where people engage and interact within an energy rich learning environment, promoting this through innovative furniture while creating an inspiring, functional social and learning space that is comfortable and flexible to its user.

Notable Highlights

Children's area dedicated zoned area for children 0-7 and 7-11 contains soft mat, large 'Sea Themed’ cushions and undersea wall graphics, face on display for picture and board book storage, curved kinderbox with integrated seating.

Reading area / relaxation area for newspapers etc, a classic look chair with overall design that offers supportive arms for the elderly. Contemporary display stand to keep newspapers and magazines tidy.

Dedicated teen area a calming and refreshing space for teenagers away from the colourful children's interactive area that included bean bags and modular soft seating to engage and chill out with their tablets or reading material. The wall graphic of Cranny Falls, a local landmark, adds to this calming effect.

Study area for private individual and group study in the form of jig-saw shaped table to seat up to four people.

Main library shelving with feature end panels with option of integrated curved stool between shelving bays.

Customer service counter / Welcome desk in the form of a contemporary modular desk that is able to neatly fit into corners and tight spaces with a small footprint. Full disabled access, adequate leg space, special storage unit and cable access ports.
